Three Traditions of Painting :
Robert Civello, Yvonne Simons & Max Spoerri
June 13 - August 23

Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art

The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art presents Three Traditions of Painting, an exhibition of large-scale paintings by Robert Civello, Yvonne Simons and Max Spoerri. Featuring a selection of recent works, the exhibition will present works that focus on color, movement and scale by the three painters. Civello, Simons and Spoerri are primarily concerned with conveying ideas and reading subject matter through paint.

Yvonne Simons is a Staten Island-based painter, originally from the Netherlands whose work explores a contemporary approach to the figure by looking through the lens of classical traditions.

Max Spoerri is a Manhattan-based painter whose work explores the relationship to a momentary visual experience of a room, gathering, place and environment by transforming a space through paint, colors and tone.

Robert Civello is a Staten Island-based painter whose work explores his personal relationship to subject matter. He arrives at the personality of figures without any common features. He deals with subject matter from multiple perspectives and a comparison to literature.
